King of Sports - Pete Ward's influential book to be re-published.
Many of my cycling friends will remember the late Pete Ward of the Ribble Valley CRC, and in particular his very influential book "King of Sports" published back in 1968. It was the first comprehensive book in English about road racing, how to train for it, the tactics, the healthy lifestyle, etc, plus many anecdotes from Pete's career competing against some of the stars of the British scene of the era.
Many of us were greatly influenced by the book, which still contains lots of good sense applicable to today's racing scene, though you'll struggle to find an original copy these days unless, like me, you have had one on your shelves for many years.
Well, the good news is that the book is about to be re-published by agreement with his family, in a new special edition, which can now be pre-ordered. Even better news is that you can use the discount code KOS20 for 20% off.
I'm proud to have been asked to write an introduction as a tribute to my old friend, and have agreed to help publicise the book of course. There are a few changes to the format and layout, but it's pretty much unchanged in feel and content. So if you want a piece of cycling history, are nostalgic for the era, or want to learn more of the information and advice, then have a look, via the link below.
